Sea Salt Production

Before we left Morehead City NC in Nov 2013, cruisers Kathi and Dave gave us homemade / boatmade sea salt. They had made it in The Bahamas the previous season.  We felt so honored to get this unique, handmade gift and as such, we have used it sparingly for special occasions and dishes.
Tom decided that he wanted to give sea salt production a try.  The beautiful, clear waters of Barbuda seemed like the perfect opportunity.  The first attempt was in a 9x13 cake pan I had.  However, he soon discovered rust....too many harvest desserts cut in the pan causing minute scratches- oops!  He sorted through and kept the non-rust salt that came from that batch.  The current attempt is drying in one of my silicone pans.
We haven't had an rain to wash the boat so I suggested he just gather up all the salt on the portholes and every other surface of the boat.  Sheesh.
Anyway.....we will update soon with a sea salt production yield report but don't place your orders yet. It does make us realize just how precious the gift was we received from Kathi and Dave.  Thanks guys!  We are so enjoying it.
