UHT Milk

I like milk.  I like pretty much all things milk -cheese being queen of the dairy.  In fact, cheese is Queen of all food for me....except perhaps sharing the food kingdom with chocolate.  For me, an icy cold glass of milk first thing in the morning or in the middle of the night is refreshing.  Most of the time we can find milk and buy two jugs vs one so it will last until the next provision stop. However, sometimes this is not the case.  For the in between times I use UHT Milk.  I was first introduced to this ages ago traveling in Europe and living in Norway.
What is UHT milk?  Shelf-stable milk that is 100% real cow's milk that is ultra pasteurized and packed in special cartons designed to keep the milk pure and safe.  It tastes slightly different than regular milk but then again, we drink skim milk so our milk tastes different than whole milk anyway.  I also have a box of powered milk just in case but I haven't had to break into that yet.  And while it tastes....weird, my grandma West used to serve me powered milk when I visited so I have found memories of that taste so it's no big deal.   If you like milk and plan to cruise, you might give UHT milk a try.  It is sometimes tough to find in US grocery stores but readily available once you leave the US.  Perhaps buy a carton or two every now and then so you can get used to the taste.

  1. I didn't know about powdered milk or UHT milk. I learn something new every day.

    1. You might look for Hersey brand UHT back in KS. That is the only one I could find. Generally it's with the condensed milk. If you don't like dairy and need to have some for guest (in their coffee and such) UHT is good.
