I have struggled with salt and pepper shakers since purchasing s/v Honey Ryder. No matter what I did, the salt cakes up. I read about these little gems on The Boat Galley web site. I have been using them since we moved aboard and they work like a charm. I actually have salt in both as pepper isn't really a problem with a pepper grinder. I don't even have to add rice to the salt. These seal up tight, keeping moisture out and letting the salt flow freely whenever needed. I bought mine off Amazon. They are a MUST if you are going to be cooking on your boat.
