Local Shrimp - Brunswick GA

Heading home from the beach the other day we decided that we needed to get some local shrimp. Our Winn Dixie carries local shrimp from someone named Captain John up in Darien GA but something told us to wait and get local local shrimp.

If you remember back last fall on one of our visits to s/v Honey Ryder we went Shrimpin - something we highly recommend if anyone finds themself in this area.  On that trip we got to visiting with first mate John.  Besides being a first mate for Shrimpin excurtions, he is also a retired but active again part time fireman AND captains his own small shrimp boat.  He supplies the shrimp that is boiled up and served on the Shrimping excursions as well as taking private orders for shrimp.

We remembered that he mentioned we could stop by any time and place an order.  So we stopped by on the off chance he might have some.  They had just returned from a Shrimping excursion but he popped over to his boat -a funky motified shrimp boat to be sure- and said he had an order for some people but he was sure he had extra he could sell us.

He bagged up a about 1 1/2 lbs of huge shrimp.  When Tom gave him a $10, he said it was only $5.  Tom said "It's all we've got but no worries we will be back again and it will all work out."  But John didn't have change and insisted he give us more shrimp.  We ended up with a hefty 3 lbs of super fresh, caught that morning shrimp.  We had a small cooler with us because we took it to the beach and also because that is how we roll....so we just put the bag of shrimp in there for the ride home.

Now what to do with all that shrimp.  Boil it up.  I used my pressure cooker pan and had to do it in batches as we had so much.  They were SO incredibily sweet tasting. Yum, Yum, Yum, Yum, Yum!

The next day I chopped the leftovers into big chunks.  I added 1/4 of a red pepper - finely chopped, one jalapeno -finely chopped and just enough mayo to bind it all together.  It was served a top a green salad.  Yum again!

    1. Oh no, Tom INSISTED that we bring at least 1 bottle. If he could, I am sure he would fill the bilge with Gates.
